Retreats

What is a Retreat?

In respectful imitation of monastic discipline, Saint Valentine's offers longer opportunities to deepen one's meditation on Jesus Christ. A retreat consists of multiple sessions of silent meditation with intermittent resting time, talks, masses, and other programs. Exact schedules are posted before each retreat. The overall mission of a retreat is to meditate more deeply and more thoroughly so as to take on an increasingly contemplative life whatever our role in society may be.

Types of Retreats

A Half-Day Meditation is a great beginning retreat for those who have begun their meditation practice with Saint Valentine's. It is ideally for those who have attended our meditations in person and for those who meditate regularly at home. Refreshments and larger meals may be offered. Words of encouragement are given before and after the retreat.

An All-Day Meditation is excellent for seasoned mediators wishing to take their practice to a deeper level. Lunch is served. It is essentially two half day retreats in a single day. A mass may be offered depending on the availability of clergy.

An All-Night Vigil is a good way to deepen one's prayer and meditation. It is a more open format with periods of personal prayer and structured meditation.

Coming Prepared

All of our retreats require an RSVP in order to attend. Those with no prior meditation experience with Saint Valentine's will be admitted only on a case-by-case basis. Requests may be made online or in person.

*Note for 2022: Saint Valentine's is not currently offering retreats on a regular basis. Please stay tuned on our website or on our social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram) for upcoming events.
